Army Aviation Support Facility

Gowen Field, Boise, ID

  • Owner: State of Idaho Military Division

  • Architect: Matter-Maxey Architect

This facility for the Idaho Army National Guard at Gowen Field consisted of the construction of a single-story, 60,000 square foot combination hangar, shop and office building. The project also incorporated a flight simulator to the existing AASF building that was also on site.

The building is a combination of concrete block with a brick veneer and an exterior insulating finish system (EIFS), with the single ply roof being supported by clear span open web steel joists. The site work consisted of the demolition, the construction of a 675,000 foot taxiway, approaches, and tanker truck parking. An access road was also built, as well as vehicle parking areas and extensive landscaping which incorporated sight lighting and other safety features.

Coeur d’Alene Airport Maintenance Hangar and Office Building

Hayden, ID

  • Owner: Panhandle Area Council

  • Architect: GD Longwell

The hangar building has several skylights and windows to allow employees to work by natural light and has a maintenance friendly epoxy coated slip resistant flooring system to help promote a safe work environment.

The adjacent office building is designed to address the areas vernacular style by the use of heavy timbers, stone, multiple roof dormers, and other feature elements. The office area is set up to use open plan systems furniture and emphasizes the use of natural light and ease of interior circulation.
